Choosing the correct Column /Lantern combination

The choice of column height/lantern size is critical if you want your lantern to be in proportion, as a guide the following height sizes should be observed (based on the Windsor Lantern)

10ft  Column (Full size lantern) 415mm sq.

8ft  Column (7/8 and 3/4 size lantern) 358mm sq. & 315mm sq.

 

Lanterns are generally measured across the flats or across the diameter and
 bracket mounted lanterns should be roughly the same height ratio as for columns.

Standard Galvanized posts 76mm(3" )dia. shaft are generally available up to 4.5m (15").

Reclaimed Cast Iron Columns are still obtainable from time to time but expect to pay at least £250+ for one and a further £150 for it to be professionally refurbished. Carriage is also high due to the weight and there is always risk of  breakage in transit.
